Experimentations with new techniques and older cultural activities.
[A seminar on the use of the technology that we all have
(smart phones, tablets), as well as on the use of emotions that we all also have.]
The experimental platform Geo(augmented)Cultural Space is presented for the first time at ΚΟΙΝΩΝΩ-Τinos Festival 2017.
This platform is an ongoing research project by Manthos Santorineos and Stavroula Zoi, which combines the virtual and the real space and attempts to reshape the entire satellite registered world map to an exhibition space.
Based on the geographic coordinates that satellites provide to smart devices (which have GPS receiver), the curator is able to define specific points-of-interest, throughout the longitude and latitude of earth, and superimpose virtual exhibits which can be viewed through visitors’ smart devices, when in range.
The Geo(augmented)CulturalSpace platform is developed based on the Unity game engine, in conjunction with augmented reality techniques, geographic data processing, and other computational techniques for producing the composite exhibition space.
The working group of Geo(augmented)CulturalSpace is collaborating with ΚΟΙΝΩΝΩ Festival 2017 and is setting up the first experimental exhibition of the platform throughout the island of Tinos.
The research project will be completed in 2018.
The artworks are selected by Christos Artemis, artistic director of ΚΟΙΝΩΝΩ. They are produced through a seminar organized by Manthos Santorineos in Tinos, on 20 / 8 / 2017.
More seminars will follow, in winter, in Athens, Tinos and worldwide.

Also, at the seminar that took place on 20/8/2017 at Sikia, the participants were asked to give an important word for them. At the same place (Sikia), these words can be viewed through the platform, but not the names of the participants. Anyone interested to get in touch with the proposer of the word may send a message to msantori@otenet.gr mentioning the word.
